The role of the "Taugenichts" or "good-for-nothing" was a typical figure of Romantic writings. The story begins with a father sending his so-called good-for-nothing son out into the world to make his own living. The son, a supremely romantic character, packs his violin and sets off in high spirits. Wandering aimlessly, he happens upon a carriage with two young ladies inside, and with that he gains employment, falls in love, receives a broken heart, and achieves everything else that makes him the German romantic character he is. Softcover, 5-3/4" x 8-1/4", 112 pages. Level 3 Book/CD Set.
