The Legamus Transitional Readers are innovative texts that form a bridge between the initial study of Latin via basal textbooks and the reading of authentic author texts. This series of texts is being developed by a special committee of high school and college teachers to facilitate this challenging transition. Horace: A Legamus Transitional Reader introduces students to Latin selections from Horace's Satires 1.4 and 1.6 (47 lines) and Odes 1.5, 1.9, 1.11, 1.23, 1.37, 2.10, 3.9, and 3.30 (156 lines). Introductory materials include an overview of the life and works of Horace, historical context, and bibliography. Appendices on grammar, figures of speech, and Horatian meter, as well as a pull-out vocabulary, complete the book's innovative features. Softcover, 8-1/2"x11", 190 pages.
