Paris, 1849. 14-year-old Julot is learning the printer’s trade from Monsieur Girard, who prints the newspaper L’Évènement, which publishes Victor Hugo’s speeches. Young Micloche is a newspaper street vendor and his 12-year-old sister Flora is a laundress. Julot and Flora become close friends, but the government does not like L’Évènement’s ideas of freedom.
